Florida man arrested on felony child porn warrant

A Florida man was arrested Monday near Tonopah on a felony warrant out of state, the Nye County Sheriff’s Offices said in a statement.

David Erdman, 51, was arrested on felony possession and distribution of child pornography charges from Florida at the Economy Inn Motel after a tip came in that he worked and lived on site.

In May 2014 police were made aware of a parked vehicle in the Hot Creek Ranch area, that deputies discovered was registered to Erdman.

No one was in the vehicle when police responded, and a note that read, ‘Out camping, be back soon,’ found on the vehicle.

Nye Search and Rescue and deputies conducted an exhaustive search of the area that spanned a 14-day time frame. The search completed yielding no suspect.

Police then towed Erdman’s vehicle to the Sheriff’s office, where no relevant information was found.

During the course of their investigation police discovered that Erdman was wanted out of Florida on a child pornography charges.

In June 2014 Florida officials confirmed that an extraditable warrant was issued for Erdman.

A tip on Sunday led police to Erdman today.

Erdman is being held in the Tonopah Detention Facility awaiting extradition to Florida.
