Accused Las Vegas Strip shooter’s trial set for subsequent summer

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A self-described pimp already in Nevada state prison for a rape and robbery conviction is due to get a date for his death penalty trial in a Las Vegas Strip shooting and fiery crash that killed three.

A trial has been set for July 6, 2015 in that case.

Ammar Harris also faces a preliminary hearing Wednesday in a separate prison contraband smuggling case.

The 28-year-old Harris is due prior to a nearby judge for a preliminary hearing on felony charges alleging that a guard smuggled meals, methamphetamines, vodka and a cellphone to him earlier this year at a state prison outside Las Vegas.

Harris is due in one more courtroom for a Nevada state court judge to set a 2015 date for his capital trial on murder, attempted murder and weapon charges in the spectacular and deadly February 2013 shooting and crash.

Harris will also be due back in court on Nov. 5 for a status check.
